Hud

Alif-Lâm-Râ. (This is) a Book the verses of which are connected (with any other verses) and then explained in detail, from One Who is All-Wise, All-Aware (Informed),

so that you will not to be a servant to anything but Allah. Surely, I am a Warner for you from Him and a bringer of glad tidings.

And (the Holy Quran was sent down in order) for you to wish your sins to be replaced with good by your Lord, then turn to Him in repentance; for Him to provide you with a goodly provision to an appointed term and bestow His Generosity (light of) on every one endowed with Generosity. And, if you turn away, then surely I fear for you the torment of a Great Day.

To Allah is your comeback, and He has Power over all things.

Now surely, they fold up their chests that they may hide from Him, do they not? Do not they use their garments as a covering? (Allah) knows what they conceal and what they make public. Surely He knows what is in the breasts.

And there is no moving living creature in the earth but on Allah is the sustenance of it, and He knows its place of stay (in heaven or in hell) and the place of transience (earthly life). All is in Kitab-ı Mübîn (a Clear Book).

And He it is Who has created the heavens and the earth in six Days (Periods) to see which of you is best in deed. And His Heaven of Heavens was on the water. If you were to tell them: “You will indeed be raised up to life after death”, those who disbelieve (deny, conceal) would certainly say: “This is nothing but obvious magic”.

And if We delay the torment for them till a determined term, they are sure to say: “What prevents it”? On the day when it will come to them, it will not be averted from them, shall it? They are enveloped by what they used to ridicule.

And if We make man taste Mercy from Us, then take it off from him, most surely he is despairing, ungrateful (disbeliever).

And if We make him taste a gift after poverty has touched him, he is sure to say: “The evils are gone away from me”. Surely, he is a spoiled braggart!

Except those who are patient and do righteous acts (that cleanses the soul’s heart). For them there will be replacement of sins with good and a Great Reward.

Then, it may be that you will give up part of what is revealed to you and your heart will become straitened by it because they say: “Why has not a treasure been sent down upon him or an angel has come with him”? But you are only a Warner; and Allah is a Surrogate over all things.

Or, do they say: “He has forged it”? Say: “Then bring ten forged Sûrahs like it, and call upon whom you can besides Allah, if you are truthful”.

If then they cannot answer you, then know that it is sent down with the Knowledge of Allah and that there is no god but He. So, have you become a Muslim (entered into Islam)?

Whoever desires the life of the world and its finery, We pay them in full their deeds therein, and they therein will not be deprived.

These are they for whom there is nothing but Fire in the Hereafter, and vain are the deeds they did therein (in life). And (all) that they do is fruitless.

Is he then who is upon a clear proof from his Lord, and a witness from Him recites it (Quran) that before it (was) the Book of Moses, as an Imam (guide to Return) and a Mercy (light)? That’s them who believe in it (in a witness from the Lord). Or (are upon a clear proof from his Lord) whoever of the parties who denies him, and therefore their promised place will be the Fire? So be not in doubt about it. Because it (Quran) is the truth from your Lord. But most people do not believe.

And who is more unjust than he who slanders with lie against Allah? Those will be presented before their Lord. And the witnesses will say: “These are they who lied against their Lord. Is not the Curse of Allah on the tyrants”?

They avert from the Way of Allah (as they hinder the person from reaching a Murshid thereby do not allow person’s spirit leaving the physical body and getting on the Sıratı Mustakîm, which leads to Allah), and seek to distort it (they want to distort its true meaning: that is, the return of the spirit to Allah before death). They are the ones who deny Hereafter (that is, the reach of spirit to Allah before death).

They cannot render (Allah) powerless on earth nor did they have besides Allah any friends. The torment will be multiplied for them. They could not bear to hear (their faculties of hearing did not function) and they could not see (their faculties of seeing did not function).

These are they who have caused their souls to fall into Loss, and what they come up with is gone from them.

Truly in the Hereafter they will undergo the greatest loss.

Surely those who believe (who wish their spirits to reach Allah before death) and do righteous acts (that cleanse the souls’ hearts) and who feel reverence before their Lord [those into the souls’ hearts of whom Ihbat (a divine computerized system that makes the understanding possible, agreeing and obedient to Allah) is placed], these are the owners of Heaven, in it they will abide forever.

The likeness of the two parties is as the blind and the deaf and the seeing (their faculties of seeing functions) and the hearing (their faculties of hearing functions). Are they equal when compared? Will you not then deliberate?

And certainly We sent Noah to his people (and he said to them): “Surely I am a plain Warner for you,

that you be servants to nothing but Allah. Surely I fear that a painful torment should be upon you”

Then the elites from among his people of those who denied said: “We don't see you except as a person like us and we do not see any have followed anyone who would follow you, except for those who are below us (poorest, weakest, most helpless) and a simple worldview. And we do not see in you any excellence over us; rather, we deem you liars”.

He said: “Is this your opinion? If I am upon a clear proof from my Lord and He has given me Mercy from Himself and it has been made obscure to you, will we compel you to it while you are averse from it?

And O my people! I do not ask of you any wealth for it (what I convey). If any, then my reward is only from Allah. And I am not going to drive away those who are amenu (who wish their spirits to reach Allah before death). Surely, they will meet (reach before death to) their Lord. And but I consider you a people who are ignorant.

O my people! Who will help me against Allah, if I drive them away? Will you not then deliberate?

And I do not say to you that with me are the Treasures of Allah, nor that I know the Unseen, nor do I say I am an angel. And I do not say of those whom your eyes look down upon (those who wish their spirits to reach Allah before death) that Allah will never give them any good. Allah knows best what is in their souls. For then (if I do not tell the truth) most surely, I would be of the tyrants”.

They said: “O Noah! Indeed, you have disputed with us and you have gone too far in the dispute with us, therefore bring to us what you promise us, if you are of the truthful ones”.

He said: “Allah only will bring it to you if He wills. And you will not render (Allah) powerless.

And my advice will not profit you, even if I wish to give you good counsel, if Allah has decided that you should go astray. He is your Lord and to Him will you come back”.

Or do they say: “He has forged it”? Say: “If I have forged it, on me is my guilt. And I am clear of the crimes that you commit”.

And it was revealed to Noah: “None of your people will believe except those who have already become amenu (who have wished their spirits to reach Allah before death). Do not be distressed because of what they do”.

Build the Ark under Our guidance and with Our Revelation! And do not plead with Me in respect of those who are unjust. Surely they are the ones who will be drowned.

And as he was building the Ark, whenever the elites of his people passed by him, they mocked at him. He said: “If you mock at us, surely we too mock at you as you mock”.

Soon you know whom will come a torment which will disgrace him. And on whom will a lasting torment come down.

When Our Command came and the Tennur (a kind of atom) boiled. We said: “Immerse into it (into the ark) from everything (of each species) a pair (of male and female) and your family, and those who became amenu, except those against whom the Word has already gone forth (in 37 verse)”. And none became âmenû with him except a few.

Embark in it. In the Name of Allah is its sailing and its anchoring. Most surely my Lord is Oft-Forgiving (Who replaces sins with good), Most Merciful (Sending light).

So it (the ark) sailed with them amidst waves like mountains and Noah called out to his son, and he was standing aloof: “O my son! Embark with us and be not with the disbelievers”.

(Noah’s son) said: “I will seek refuge in a mountain, which will protect me from the water”. Noah said: “There is no protector today from the Decree of Allah except those on whom He has mercy”. And a wave intervened between them, so he was of the drowned.

And it was said: “O earth! Swallow up your water. And, o, sky! Withhold (your rain)”. And the water was made to subside and the Decree of Allah was fulfilled. And (the Ark) rested on the Jûdî and the tyrants were told to be far away!

And Noah called out to his Lord and then said: “My Lord! Surely my son is of my family and Your promise is surely true, and You are the Most Just of the judges”.

(Allah) said: “O Noah! Surely, he is not of your family. Surely his acts were other than righteous. Therefore, do not ask of Me that of which you have no knowledge! Surely, I admonish you since you would become one of ignorant ones

(Noah) said: “My Lord! I seek refuge with you from asking You that of which I have no knowledge. And unless you replace my sins with good and have Mercy (unless light) on me, I will indeed be of the losers”.

It was said: “Noah! Disembark with peace and well-being from Us! And (some) nations, We will supply them. Then a painful torment will touch them from Us”.

These are of the narratives of the Unseen which We reveal to you. Neither you nor your people knew it before this. So be patient, surely, the (good) end is for the owners of takwa (spiritual armor).

And to Âd their brother Hûd said: “O my people! Be servants to Allah. You have no god other than He. You are only slanderers.

O my people! I do not ask of you any reward (reward) for it. My reward if there is any is only with Him Who created me. Do you still not understand?

And, O my people! Ask replacement of your sins with good of your Lord. Then turn to Him in repentance (repent before your religious guide and start doing His praise (i.e Dhikir, remembrance)). He will send you (from the sky) abundant rain (Mercy; light), and add strength to your strength. And do not turn your faces away as criminals (guilty ones)”.

They said: “O Hûd! You have not brought to us any clear proof (miracle) and we are not going to desert our gods for your sayings, and we are not believers in you”.

All that we say is that some of our gods have punished you terribly. (Hûd) said: “Surely I call Allah to witness. And be you witnesses that, verily, I am (absolutely) far (pure) from those things that you associate (to Him) as partners!

Besides Him, therefore scheme against me all together (with your idols), then give me no respite.

Surely, I put my trust in Allah, my Lord and your Lord. There is no moving creature that He would not hold it by its forelock (under His control). Surely my Lord is upon Sıratı Mustakîm (He controls Sıratı Mustakîm).

So, if you turn away (your faces), then indeed I have conveyed the Message (revelation, the book) with which I have been sent to you. And my Lord will bring another people to replace you. And you cannot harm him (Hûd) in the least. Surely, my Lord is the Preserver of all things”.

And when Our Commandment came, We saved Hûd and with him amenu ones (those who wished their spirits to reach Allah before death) with a Mercy from Us. And We saved them from a severe (harsh) torment.

The Âd people denied the Verses of their Lord knowingly and rebelled against His Messengers and followed the command of every obstinate tyrant.

And they were pursued by a Curse in this world and on the Day of Resurrection. Didn't the people of Âd deny their Lord? The people of Hûd, Âd remained far away (from the Mercy of Allah), did they not?

And to Thamûd people their brother Sâlih said: “O my people! Be servants to Allah. You have no god other than He. It is He Who created you from the earth and made you dwell in it. Therefore, ask replacement of your sins with good from Him, then obey to Him (and so turn to Him). Surely, my Lord is Near, Responsive (to prayers)”.

They said: “O Sâlih! Surely you were one amongst us in whom great expectations were placed before this. Do you now forbid us from worshipping what our fathers worshipped? As to which you call us to, most surely we are decisively in hesitation about this suspicious thing”.

Sâlih said: “O my people! Is this your opinion (even) if I am upon a clear argument (proof) from my Lord and He has given (granted) to me Mercy from Himself? Who will then help me against Allah if I rebel against (disobey) Him? Therefore, you do not add to me other than distance from the good.

And O my people! This is a she-camel of Allah is a Sign (a miracle) for you. So, let her go to feed on Allah’s earth. And do not touch her with evil, for then a near torment overtakes you”.

But they stabbed her. Then (Sâlih) said: “Enjoy yourselves in your homes for three (more) days. This is an irrefutable promise”.

So when Our Commandment came, We delivered Sâlih and amenu ones (those who wished to reach Allah before death, who became âmenû) with him and also from the disgrace of that Day of Permission. Indeed, your Lord is the Most Majestic, the Most Exalted in Might.

And an awful sound wave overtook (destroyed) those who were unjust. So they remained kneeling down in their homes,

аs if they had never dwelt (lived) there. Surely, did not the people of Thamûd deny their Lord? The people of Thamoud remained far away (from Allah), did not they?

And certainly Our Messengers came to Abraham with glad tidings. They said: “Peace”. “Peace”, said he, and he made no delay in bringing a roasted calf.

But when he saw that they did not touch it (food), he became shy and felt fear towards them. They said: “Do not fear, surely we are sent to the people of Lot (Lût)”.

And his wife who was standing up smiled. Then We gave her the glad tidings of Isaac (Ishâq), and after Isaac, of Jacob (Ya’kûb).

(She) said: “Will I bear a child when I am an extremely old woman? And this is my husband who is an extremely old man too. Most surely this is a surprising thing”.

(Angels) said: “Are you surprised at Allah’s Commandment? The Mercy of Allah and His abundance are on you, O people of the house. Surely He is All-Praiseworthy, All-Glorious”.

So, when the fear had gone away from Abraham and the glad tidings had come to him, he began to plead with Us for Lot’s people.

Most surely Abraham, without doubt, was a gentle, tender-hearted, turned to Allah.

O Abraham! Stop off this! Surely the Commandment has come. And surely there must come to them a torment that cannot be averted.

And when Our Messengers came to Lot (Lût), he was grieved and worried for them. And said: “This is a hard (distressful) day”.

And his people came rushing towards him. Aforetime they used to do bad deed. (He) said: “O my people! These are my daughters. They are cleaner for you. So be the owners of takwa (beware of Allah) towards Allah and do not disgrace me in front of my guests. Is there not among you a man prudent”?

(They) said: “Certainly you know that we have no right (desire) on your daughters. And most surely you know what we desire (ask for)”.

(Lot) said: “If only I had against you some power or could take refuge in a strong support”.

(The Messengers) said: “O Lot! We are the Messengers of your Lord. They shall by no means reach you! So leave with your family in a part of the night except your wife. Let not any of you look back, for surely whatsoever befalls them will befall her too. Surely their appointed time is the morning; is not the morning near”?

So when Our Commandment came, We turned (that city) upside down and one after another rained on them stones of baked clay, in a well-arranged manner one after another.

marked from your Lord and it is not far off from the tyrants.

And to the Madyan (Midian) people their brother Shu’aib said: “O my people! Be servants to Allah, you have no god other than He. Do not give short measure and weight. Surely I see you in prosperity and surely I fear for you the torment of an all- encompassing day.

And, O my People! Give full measure and weight in justice! Do not defraud the men their things (rights), and do not act corruptly in the land, spreading lawlessness.

The remainder of Allah (the profit that the commerce brings, the lawful profit) is better for you if you are believers. And I am not a guardian over you”.

They said: “O Shu’aib! Does your prayer command you that we would forsake what our fathers worshipped or that we would not do what we please with regard to our property? Truly, you are gentle, the mature one”.

(Shu’aib) said: “Is this your opinion even if I am upon a clear proof from my Lord and He has given me a goodly endowed from Himself? I do not intend to oppose you in that which I have forbidden you. I desire nothing but ameliorate so far as I am able. And my success can only come from Allah. Upon him I have relied, and to Him I turned to (I submited my spirit, physical body, soul and free will to Allah).

O my people! Let not your opposition to me cause you to be struck by a calamity that is similar to what struck the people of Noah or the people of Hud or the people of Salih! And the people of Lot (Lût) are not far off from you.

And ask the replacement of your sins with good from your Lord, then turn to Him in repentance (before the Messenger or the saint guide). Surely my Lord is Most Merciful (the One who sends the Light of Mercy), Most Loving”.

They said: “O Shu’aib! We did not understand much of what you said! And most surely, we see you to be weak among us, and were it not for your supporters, we would surely stone you. And you are not mighty against us.

O my people! Is then the group that supports me more esteemed by you than Allah? And you have forgotten Him (neglected Him). Surely my Lord encompasses all that you do.

O my people! Do whatever you may! Surely, I am too. You are going to know to whom will come a punishment that will disgrace him and who is a liar. And wait, surely I too am waiting with you”.

And when Our Commandment came, We saved by a Mercy from Us Shu’aib and with him those who were amenu (those who wished to reach Allah before death). And those who were tyrants, were struck by a terrifying sound wave. So they remained in their land, kneeling down,

it was as if no one had ever lived there! Were not the people of Madyan (Midian) taken away (from the Mercy of Allah) as the people of Thamûd (were taken away from the Mercy of Allah).

And I swear We sent Moses with Our Verses and a clear Sultan (Torah)

to Pharaoh and his elites, but they followed the command of Pharaoh. And the command of Pharaoh was not correct

(Pharaoh) will lead his people on the Day of Resurrection, and bring them to the Fire; and evil indeed is the place to which they are brought.

And they were pursued by a curse here, on the Day of Resurrection.Terrible baksheesh, (what) bad baksheesh!

That is some of the news of the towns which We relate to you. Of them, some are standing (have traces) and some are mowed down (has no trace).

101

And We did not tyrannize them, and but they tyrannized themselves. So, their gods whom they called upon besides Allah profited them nothing when the Command of your Lord came. And they added to them nothing but destruction.

102

Such is the Seizure of your Lord when He seizes the towns while they were tyrants. Verily, His Seizure is painful, severe.

103

Surely in this is a Sign for those who fear the torment of the Hereafter. This is the Day on which the people will be gathered together and this is the Day of witnessing.

104

And We do not delay it (the Day) but for a term fixed.

105

When that Day comes, no one can speak except by His leave. Then some of them are ‘Shâkî’ (unhappy) some of them are ‘Said’ (happy).

106

So as to those who are Shâkî (unhappy), they will be in the Fire. For them therein is difficult exhaling and inhaling (moaning loudly).

107

They will dwell therein for all the time that the heavens and the earth (of Hell) endure, except as your Lord wills (to annihilate Hell). Verily, your Lord is the Doer of whatsoever He wills.

108

But as to those who are happy, they shall be as an inexhaustible gift in Paradise abiding in it as long as the heavens and the earth (of Paradise) endure, except as your Lord wills (to annihilate Heaven).

109

Therefore be not in doubt as to what they worship. They also worship as their fathers worshipped before. And most surely, We pay their portion in full, undiminished.

110

And I swear We gave the Book to Moses but it came under disagreement. If a Word had not gone forth from your Lord (that the Account will be on the Day of Judgment), the matter would surely have been judged between them. Surely, they are in a disquieting doubt about it (the Quran).

111

And your Lord will most surely pay for all their deeds in full. Surely, He is All-Aware of what they do (their deeds).

112

Be then on the direction (Sirat Mustakim) as you are commanded, as also those who have turned in repentance having followed on you. And be not inordinate (exceed the limit). Surely, He is All- Seeing of what you do.

113

And do not incline to those who are tyrants. Otherwise the Fire should touch you. You have no friend other than Allah. Later you will not be helped.

114

Keep up the prayer in the two parts of the day and when the night approaches the day. Surely good acts take away bad deeds. This is an admonition for those who praise (repeat the Name of Allah saying Allah, Allah one after another).

115

And be patient; verily Allah does not annul the reward (reward) of the Muhsinîn (those who submited their physical body to Allah).

116

Was it not possible that among the generations before you also forbade lawlessness on earth, as (for centuries forbade evil and commanded good) the owners of obedience (that is, the Imams of the Epoch) and those few of them (from these generations) whom We saved? But tyrants followed what gave them pleasure (luxury and power) and became guilty (sinners).

117

And your Lord would never destroy unjust the towns, while their people were doing righteous acts (cleansing their souls).

118

And if your Lord had willed, He would certainly have made mankind a single nation. Yet they will continue to differ,

119

except those on whom your Lord has mercy; (those to whom He has sent His Light of Mercy by manifesting Himself with the Name of Most Merciful and those who have not differed as they have wished spirit to reach Allah before death) and for this did He create them (to differentiate them). The Word of your Lord is fulfilled: “Certainly I will fill Hell with the jinn and the men, all together”.

120

And all that We relate to you are of the news of the Messengers. We strengthen your heart (the faculty of understanding what is beyond the physical world) with them. And in this (in these news) has come to you the truth and an admonition, and a reminder for the believers.

121

And say to those who do not believe: “(Continue to) do whatever you have been doing. Surely we too are the doers.

122

And wait! Surely we are waiting too”.

123

And Allah’s is the Unseen of the heavens and the earth and to Him return all affairs. So be a servant to Him and rely on Him. Your Lord is not unaware of what you do.

الر ۚ كِتَابٌ أُحْكِمَتْ آيَاتُهُ ثُمَّ فُصِّلَتْ مِنْ لَدُنْ حَكِيمٍ خَبِيرٍ
