The Repentance

This is an (a warning) exoneration from Allah and His Messenger to those of the polytheists with whom you made an agreement.

So go about in the land for four months and know that you cannot weaken Allah and that Allah will disgrace the disbelievers.

And a proclamation from Allah and His Messenger to all men on the day of the Greater Pilgrimage (Hajj'ul Akbar) that Allah and His Messenger are away from the polytheists. Therefore if you repent (before holy teacher), it will be better for you, and if you turn back, then know that you will not weaken Allah. And give tidings (warning) of a painful torment to those who disbelieve.

Except those of the polytheists with whom you have made a treaty, then they have not failed you in anything and have not backed up any one against you. So fulfill their treaty to the end of their term. Surely Allah loves those who are the owners of takwa (spiritual armor).

So when the Sacred Months have passed away, then kill the polytheists wherever you find them, and take them captives and besiege them. And sit in every look out place (scrutinize them). Then if they repent and keep up the prayer and pay Alms (the Zakât), then set them free. Surely Allah is Oft-Forgiving (Replacing sins with good), Most Merciful (Sending light Mercy).

And if one of the polytheists seeks help from you, grant him protection till he hears the Word of Allah. Then deliver him to his place of safety. This is because they are a people who do not know.

How can there be a covenant with Allah and with His Messenger for the polytheists? Except those with whom you made a covenant near Mescid-i Haram? So as long as they are true to you (if they fulfill their covenant), be true to them (fulfill your covenant). Surely Allah loves the owners of takwa (spiritual armor).

How can there be (such a covenant with them)? If they gain force against you (if they back up each other), they would not respect ties of kinship or covenant with you (the rights you have on account of your covenant) they please you with their tongues while their hearts are averse to you, and most of them are ungodly ones.

They have sold the Verses of Allah for a trifling price. So, they hindered (others) from His Way (they prevented others from entering Sıratı Mustakîm). Evil indeed is what they used to do.

They do not observe either kinship (ties of relationship) nor rights towards the believers. Here they are, they are those who infringe on the rights (cross the line).

Yet if they repent (before the Messenger by wishing their spirit to reach Allah before death) and keep up the prayer and pay Alms (the Zakât), then they are your brethren in religion. And We explain the Verses in detail for a people who know.

And if they break their oaths after their covenant and revile your religion, then fight the leaders of disbelief. Surely they have (indeed) no oaths so that they may desist.

Will you not fight a people who broke their oaths? And they aimed at the expulsion of the Prophet (from his home) and they attacked you first. Do you fear them? But Allah is most deserving that you should fear Him, if you are believers.

Fight against them. Allah torments them by your hands and disgraces them. And assist you against them (give you victory over them). And heals the breasts of a believing people.

And removes the rage from their hearts and Allah accepts the repentance of whom He wills. And Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.

Did you really think that you would be abandoned, despite the fact that Allah knows those of you who fight and do not make friends with anyone except Allah, His Messenger and the believers? And Allah knows what you do!

It is not for the polytheists to build the mosques of Allah while bearing witness to disbelief against themselves (their own souls). As for such, their deeds are in vain. And in the Fire they shall abide forever.

None should build the mosques of Allah except those who believe in Allah and the latter day (to have the spirit return back to Allah before death) and keep up the prayer and pay Alms (the Zakât) and fear none but Allah. So as for these, it may be that they are of those who have attained to Return (Return their spirit to Allah).

Have you made the providing of water for the pilgrim and the building of Al-Masjid Al-Haram equal to one who believes in Allah and the Last Day and strives in the cause of Allah? They are not equal in the presence of Allah. And Allah does not guide the unjust people (will not return their spirit to Himself).

Those who are amenu (who wished to return their spirits to Allah before death) and emigrated and strove hard in Allah’s Way with their property and their souls, are much higher in rank with Allah. And those are they who are in Salvation.

Their Lord gives them glad tidings of Mercy (light) and goodwill from Him, a and of Paradise Gardens for them wherein are everlasting gifts,

abiding therein forever. Verily, with Allah is a Greatest Reward (Ecrun Azîm).

O you who believe (who have become âmenû)! Do not make friends with your fathers and brothers if they prefer disbelief to Belief. And those of you who will return to them, here they are, they are tyrants!

Say: “If your fathers and your sons and your brothers and your mates and your kinsfolk and property which you have acquired, and the slackness of trade which you fear and dwellings in which you delight are dearer to you than Allah and His Messenger and striving hard in His Way, then wait till Allah brings about His Command”. And Allah does not allow the ungodly people to attain Return (don’t return their spirit to Himself).

I swear, Allah has already helped you on many battlefields and on the day of Hunain. You rejoiced at your great numbers, but they availed you nothing. The earth became strait to you in spite of its spaciousness. Then you turned to your back again.

Then Allah did send down His Sakînah (calmness) upon His Messenger and upon the believers. And sent down an army which you could not see and tormented those who disbelieved. And that is the punishment of the disbelievers.

Then after that, Allah accepts the repentance of whom He wills. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving (Replacing sins with good), Most Merciful (the One who sends down the light of Mercy).

O you who believe (who wish their spirits to reach Allah before death)! The polytheists are nothing but filth (impure). Let them not approach Mescid-i Haram (the Sacred Mosque) after this year. If you fear poverty, Allah will enrich you if He wills, out of His Generosity. Surely, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.

Fight those of the owner of the Book who do not believe in Allah and the Last Day (on the day of the return of the spirit to Allah), and do not consider forbidden what Allah and His Messenger have forbidden, and do not accept religion as the true religion, until they will not pay tax with their own hands, being humiliated.

And the Jews said: “Uzair (Ezra) is the son of Allah”, and the Christians said: “Messiah is the son of Allah”. The words of their mouths imitate the saying of those who denied before. May Allah destroy them! How they are turned away!

Besides Allah, they have taken Ahbar (clergy) and Ruhban (priests) and (also) the Messiah, son of Mary for their gods. They were enjoined that they should be the servants to one God only. There is no god but He. Far from His Glory be what they associate (with Him).

They want to put out the Light of Allah with their mouths. And Allah does not want anything but to complete His Light, even though the disbelievers don't want.

He is the One Who sent His Messenger with Return (with subjugation) and with true religion, in order to reveal its integrity to all (other representatives) of religion (to prove that this is the true and only religion), no matter how hateful it is for polytheists!

O you who believe (who wish their spirits to reach Allah before death)! Indeed, many of the Ahbar (clergy) and the Ruhban (Priests) devour the property of the people in falsehood, and hinder them from the Way of Allah. And those who hoard up gold and silver and do not spend it in the Way of Allah, give tidings unto them of a painful torment.

On the Day when (iron, that is, everything that was accumulated by them) shall be heated in the Fire of Hell, then their foreheads and their sides and their backs shall be branded with it. This is what you hoarded up for yourselves (your own souls) therefore taste what you used to hoard.

Indeed, the number of months with Allah is twelve months in the Book of Allah the day He created the heavens and the earth, of these four being sacred. This is the lasting religion. Therefore, do not wrong your own souls therein. Fight with the polytheists altogether just as they themselves fight against you altogether. And know that Allah is with the owners of takwa (spiritual armor).

Leaving (postponing of the sacred months) is only an addition in disbelief. With it those who disbelieve are led astray. They think it (the postponed month) lawful one year and forbid it (the postponed month) another year in order to adjust the number (of the sacred) months that Allah has forbidden and make such forbidden ones lawful. The evil of their deeds is made fair-seeming to them. And Allah does not cause the disbelieving people to Return (does not return their spirit to Himself).

O you who believe (who wish their spirits to reach Allahbefore death)! What is the matter with you that when you are asked to go forth to struggle (struggling against your souls to render your spirit to Allah) (struggle against the disbelievers and your enemies) in the Way of Allah you remained in place (your spirit still did not start to its journey towards Allah and you did not join the Islamic army to fight)? Are you pleased with the life of this world rather than (rendering your spirit) the Hereafter? But little is the offering (provision, comfort) of this world as compared to the Hereafter (rendering the spirit back to Allah).

He (Allah) will torment you with a painful torment (if you do not voluntarily enter into struggling with souls and do not fight the disbelievers) and replace you with other people, except that you will go on a campaign (stand on the way of Sirati Mustakim, that will return your spirit to Allah and fight the unbelievers). And you will not be able to harm Him in any way, because Allah is Almighty!

When you did not help him, Allah did help him (Rasul). When the disbelievers expelled him (when the disbelievers forced him to go out of Makkah) he was the second of the two. When they were in the cave, he said to his companion: “Do not grieve, surely Allah is with us”. Then Allah sent down His Sakînah (calmness, tranquility) upon him and strengthened him with armies which you could not see. He (Allah) made lowest the word of those who disbelieved. And the Word of Allah, that is the highest and Allah is Majestic, All- Wise.

Go forth light and heavy (as cavalries and infantries) and strive hard in Allah’s Way with your property and your lives. This is better for you, if you know.

Had it been a near booty and an easy journey, they would have followed you, but the distance seemed too far to them. They shall swear by Allah: “If we had been able, we would surely have come forth with you”. They destroy themselves (their souls), and Allah knows that they are most real liars.

Why did you them leave (don't striving hard) before you manifest out the faithful and know out the liars?

Those who believe in Allah and the latter day (in reach of the spirit to Allah before death) do not ask leave of you from striving hard with their property and their lives. And Allah knows the owners of takwa (spiritual armor).

Only those would ask permission of you who do not believe in Allah and the Last Day and whose hearts have doubted. So in their doubt do they waver.

And if they had wished to go forth, they would surely have made some preparation for it (war), but Allah disliked their behavior. So, He held them back and it was said to them: Sit with those who stay behind.

Had they gone forth with you, they would have added nothing except evil. They are trying to sow disorder among you, and there are those among you who listen to them. And Allah knows the tyrants.

I swear that they wanted to sow disorder before and turned all sorts of cases against you, And Allah’s Commandment prevailed although they didn't want it.

And one of them (of the hypocrites) says: “Allow me leave and do not push me to sedition”. Surely, they have fallen into sedition, have they not? And indeed, Hell is encompassing the disbelievers.

If good befalls you, it grieves them, and if a disaster befalls you, they say: “We took indeed our precautions beforehand”. And they turn back while they are rejoicing.

Say: “Nothing befalls us except that which Allah has written for us. He is our Friend (Maulâ)”. And in Him let the believers put their trust.

Say: Do you wait for us except one of the two best things? And we (too) await for you that Allah will afflict you with punishment from Himself or at our hands. So, you wait (too). We too are waiting with you.

Say: “Spend willingly or unwillingly, it shall not be accepted from you”; surely you have been ungodly people.

And what prevents their expenditures from being accepted from them but that they have disbelieved in Allah and in His Messenger and that they come not to prayer except while they are lazy and that they do not spend except while they are unwilling.

Let not then their property and their children impress you. Allah only wishes to torment them with these in this world’s life and that their souls to depart while they are disbelievers.

They swear by Allah that they are most surely of you, and they are not of you. They are a people who are cowardly.

If they could find a shelter or caves or a place to enter into, they would certainly have turned thereto, running away in all haste.

And of them there are those who criticize you with respect to the charity. So, if they are given from it (from charity, booty) they are pleased, and if they are not given from it, behold, they are full of rage.

And if they had been content with what Allah and His Messenger gave them (of booty), they would have said: “Allah is Sufficient for us; Allah and His Messenger will give us of His Generosity”. Surely, we are desirous toward Allah.

Indeed, charity is a obligation from Allah for the poor and for the needy and for those employed to collect Alms, and for those whose hearts will be brought together (for Islam) and for slaves and for those in debt and for (those) on the Way of Allah and for the travelers. And Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.

There are some of them who persecute the Prophet say: “He is (like) an ear (he listens to everything told and believes it)”. Say: “He is an ear of goodness for you (He hears what you say, accepts it; he is an ear of goodness because he does not deny you and not because he does not know it)”. He believes in Allah and has faith in the believers. And he is a mercy for those of you who believe (who are âmenû). For those who persecute the Messenger of Allah (those who say improper words to him, who criticize him) there is a painful torment.

They swear by Allah in order to please you, if they should be believers, Allah and His Messenger are more have rights for Them to please.

Do they not know that whoever exceeds the limits against Allah and His Messenger, certainly for him will be the Fire of Hell to abide therein forever? That is the greatest abasement.

The hypocrites fear lest a chapter (Surah) should be sent down to them telling them plainly of what is in their hearts. Say: “Go on mocking, surely Allah will bring forth what you fear”.

And if you question them, they would certainly say: “We were only idly discoursing and joking”. Say: “Is it Allah and His Verses and His Messenger that you were mocking”?

Do not invent excuses. You have indeed denied after your belief. If We pardon a some of you; We will torment anothers, because they are guilty.

The hypocrite men and hypocrite women are of each another. They enjoin Al-Munkar (evil) and forbid from All-Ma’rûf (good) and withhold their hands (they act niggardly). They have forgotten Allah, so He has forgotten them. Indeed, the hypocrites are ungodly ones.

Allah has promised the hypocrite men and hypocrite women and the disbelievers the fire of Hell to abide therein forever. It (hell) is enough for them. And Allah has cursed them and for them there is a lasting torment.

You are like those before you. They were stronger than you in power and more abundant in wealth and children. So they enjoyed their portion; thus have you enjoyed your portion as those before you enjoyed their portion. And you have engaged (in worldly things) like that in which they engaged. These are they whose deeds are in vain. These are they who are the losers.

Has not the news of those before them come to them; of the people of Noah (Nûh), ‘Âd, and Thamûd, the people of Abraham, the dwellers of Madyan and the overturned cities. Their Messengers came to them with the clear proofs. So it was not Allah Who wronged them, but they used to wrong themselves.

And the believing men and the believing women, they are friends of each other. They enjoin Al-Ma’rûf and forbid from Al-Munkar and keep up the prayer and give alms (the Zakât) and obey Allah and His Messenger. These, Allah will show (light) mercy to them. Surely Allah is Majestic, All-Wise.

Allah has promised to the believing men and the believing women Paradises under which the rivers flow to abide in them forever. Good and clean mansions in Gardens of Adn. The greatest (of all these) is a Pleasure of Allah. That is the greatest Salvation.

O Nebî (Prophet)! Strive hard against the disbelievers and the hypocrites, and be unyielding to them. And their abode is Hell, and evil is the destination.

They swear by Allah that they said nothing, and certainly they did say the word of disbelief and did disbelieve after their Islam and they had resolved to do that which they have not been able to reach and what they wanted to avenge was only this, that Allah and His Messenger enriched them out of His Generosity. Then if they repent, it will be better for them; and if they turn back (from faith), Allah will torment them with a painful torment in this world and in the Hereafter. And there is none for them on earth as a friend or a helper.

And there are those of them who made a covenant with Allah: “If He gives us out of His Generosity, we will certainly give charity and we will certainly be of the Sâlihîn (righteous ones)”.

But when He gave them out of His Generosity, they became niggardly of it (of what He gave them) and they turned away (from their covenant).

So, He penalized them with hypocrisy in their hearts until the Day they will meet Him - because they failed Allah in what they promised Him and because they used to lie.

Do they not know that Allah knows their secrets and their secret counsels? And Allah is the All-Knowing of the Unseen.

They criticize the contributors among the believers concerning charities and the ones who find nothing except their effort, and scoff at them. And Allah scoffing of them, and for them there shall be a painful torment.

Ask forgiveness for them or do not ask forgiveness for them. Even if you ask forgiveness for them seventy times, Allah will not forgive them. This is because they disbelieve in Allah and His Messenger. And Allah does not deliver the ungodly people to Return (deliver their spirit to Himself).

Those who stayed behind (the hypocrites) rejoiced at their staying and sitting opposing the Messenger of Allah. They were averse from fighting in the Way of Allah with their property and their souls (lives), and said: “Do not go to war in the heat”. Say: “The Fire of Hell is more intense in heat”. If only they could understand!

So, let them laugh a little and cry much as a recompense of what they used to earn.

Therefore if Allah brings you back to a party of them (to hypocrites), and then ask your permission to go forth, say: “By no means shall you ever go forth with me and by no means shall you fight an enemy with me; surely you were pleased to sit still the first time, therefore sit still with those who remained behind”.

Never offer prayer for any of them who dies, and do not stand by his grave. Because they denied in Allah and His Messenger, and died while they were ungodly ones.

And let not their property and their children impress you. Allah only wishes to torment them with these (property and children) in this world and their souls to depart while they are disbelievers.

And when a Surah was revealed (enjoining them) to believe in Allah (to wish their spirits to reach Allah before death) and to fight along with His Messenger, those of wealth among them asked your permission and said, “Leave us to be with those who sit”.

They agreed to stay with the rest (those who refused to go to campaign) and their hearts are eternally sealed up. So they no longer understand.

But the Messenger and those who truly believed (were âmenû) strove hard and fought with their property and their souls (lives). And these it is who shall have the good things and these it is who shall have Salvation (at the level of Hakkul Yakin).

Allah has prepared for them Paradises under which the rivers flow, to abide in them forever. That is Fevz-ül Azîm (the Greatest Salvation).

And those with excuses among the Bedouins came to be permitted, and they who had lied to Allah and His Messenger sat (behind). A painful torment will befall those of them who disbelieved.

There is no blame (no sin) on those who are weak or ill or who find no resources to spend, if they advise (and remain true to their advice) for Allah and His Messenger. There is no way (no sin) upon (against) the Muhsinîn (who submitted physical body to Allah). And Allah is Oft-Forgiving (Replacing sins with good), Most Merciful (the One Who sends the light of mercy).

Nor (is there any blame, nor sin) on those who come to you, so that you send them (to fight on horseback). Then you said, 'I can't find that on which to carry you". And they came back with eyes full of bloody tears of chagrin at not having found anything to give.

The way (the sin) is only against those who ask permission of you though they are rich. They are content to be with those who remained behind. And Allah has eternally sealed up their hearts, so they no longer know.

They will make excuses to you when you have returned to them. Say: “Make no excuses; by no means will we believe you. Indeed, Allah has already informed us of the news (case) concerning you. Allah and His Messenger will see your doings. Then you shall be brought back to the All-Knower of the Unseen and the Seen, then He will inform you of what you used to do”.

They will swear to you by Allah when you return to them so that you may turn your faces away from them. So, do turn your faces away from them. Surely, they are unclean and their abode is Hell as a recompense for what they used to earn.

They swear to you that you may be pleased with them. Even if you are pleased with them, surely Allah is not pleased with the ungodly ones.

The Bedouins are the worst in disbelief and hypocrisy and more disposed not to know the limits of what Allah has sent down to His Messenger. And Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise (owner of decision).

And of the Bedouins there are some who take what they spend to be a loss. And they and waiting for the worst times for you. May the worst times be on them! And Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.

And of the Bedouins there are some who believe in Allah and the latter day (the day of spirit reaching to Allah before death) and take what they spend as means of nearness in the presence of Allah and in the Messenger’s prayers. Indeed these (spending in Allah’s Way) are a means of nearness for them, are they not? Allah will make them enter into His Mercy (light). Surely Allah is Oft- Forgiving (Replacing sins with good), Most Merciful (the One who sends the Light of Mercy).

Those Sabikûn-el Evvelîn (of those who previously competed in goodness and subdued their will to Allah at the post of righteousness (salah), and so were appointed to the post of religious guide): some of them are Al-Madinah (migrated from Mecca to Medina), some of them are Ensar (helpers from Medina) and some of them, those who obeyed them (Ensar and Muhadzherin) with goodness. (They obeyed them, since the followers, that is, the disciples of Muhammad (SAS), were at the post of the Religious Guide (that is the Holy teacher) . Allah is pleased with them and they are pleased with Him. And He has prepared for them Paradises with rivers flowing from under them, in which they will abide forever. This is the Greatest Reward (Fevzul Azim)!

And among those around you of the Bedouins are hypocrites, and from the people of the city some are accustomed to hypocrisy. You do not know them. We know them. We will torment them twice, then shall they be turned back to a tremendous torment.

And others (some of those who have remained behind from the war) have confessed their sins. They have mixed an righteous deed with an evil one. It is hoped that Allah will accept their repentance. Surely Allah is Oft-Forgiving (Replacing sins with good), Most Merciful (the One who sends the Light of Mercy).

Take charity out of their property, and clean and cleanse them (souls) thereby and pray for them. Surely your prayer is a relief (peace) to them. And Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.

Do they not know that Allah accepts repentance and the charities from His servants. And verily Allah is the Tevvab (Accepts repentance), the Most Merciful (the One who sends the Light of Mercy).

Say: “Do (whatever you want). Allah, His Messenger and the believers will see your deeds. You shall be brought back to the Knower of the Unseen and the Seen, then He will inform you of what you used to do”.

And the others deferred until the command of Allah. He will either torment them or accept their repentance. And Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.

107

And those who took for themselves a Masjid (Masjid-i Dirar) for causing harm and (the strengthening of) disbelief and division among the believers and as a (observation) station for whoever had warred against Allah and His Messenger before. And they surely swear: “We intended only the best” and Allah bears witness that they are certainly liars.

Do not ever pray there. Certainly, a Masjid founded on takwa (spiritual armor) from the very first day is worthier to pray in it. Within it are men who love to purify (their hearts) themselves. And Allah loves those who are purified.

109

Is it then he who founds his building on takwa (spiritual armor) towards Allah and His Pleasure better, or he who lays the foundation of his building on the brink of a crumbling precipice ready to crumble down, so that he crumbles with it into the Fire of Hell? And Allah does not deliver the unjust people to Return (don’t return their spirit to Himself).

The building which they have built will ever continue to be a source of hypocrisy and suspicion in their hearts, until their hearts get cut into pieces. And Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.

111

Surely Allah has bought from the believers their lives and their property in exchange for Paradise, because they fight in the Way of Allah, killing and dying. It is a promise in truth which is binding on Him in the Torah and the Gospel and the Qur’ân. And who is truer to his covenant than Allah? Then rejoice in your bargain which you have made with Him. That is the Supreme Reward (Fevzu’l Azîm).

Gladden those who repent, those who become slaves (of Allah), who glorify (Him), who fast or wander (those who migrated in the way of Allah to fight or exalt the Name of Allah, or to strengthen His religion, and to serve in the way of Allah, leaving their dwellings to acquire religious knowledge, and sending their spirit to Allah to return it to Him, and wandering the earth, thinking about instructive examples), and bowing and prostrating themselves, commanding good and forbidding evil, and who keep the limits of Allah, and believers!

No prophet and those who have become amenu (become true believers) can ask for the polytheists to replace their sins with good, even if they are their relatives, after it became clear to them that they are inhabitants of hell.

And Abraham’s cannot ask forgiveness for his father, except for the promise that He promised only to him (St. Ibrahim). But when it became clear to him that he was an enemy of Allah, he disowned him. Most surely Abraham is very tenderhearted, compassionate.

And Allah does not enter into Darkness people after He returns (their spirit to Himself) until it is explained to them how they can become the owners of piety. Surely Allah is the All- Knowing.

116

Surely Allah’s is the Sovereignty of the heavens and the earth. He gives life and causes death. There is not for you besides Allah any friend or helper.

117

I swear, Allah has granted repentance to the Prophet and the Emigrants (from Medina). In that difficult time after their hearts were about to deviate (from the Faith) He granted repentance to the Helpers who obeyed on him and a group from them. Then He accepted their repentance. Surely to them He is Compassionate, Most Merciful (the One Who sends the Light of Mercy).

And the three (per verse 106 - those who stayed behind from war and whose decree was postponed) who were left behind (He accepted their repentance as well per verse 117). The earth became strait to them in spite of its spaciousness and their souls were also straitened to them. And they knew it for certain that there was no refuge but Allah. Then He accepted their repentance that they might redeem their spirits back to Allah again. Surely Allah is the Accepter of repentance, the Most Merciful (the One Who sends the Light of Mercy).

O you who believe (who wish their spirits to reach Allahbefore death)! Be the owners of takwa (spiritual armor) towards Allah and be with the Sâdikîn (loyal ones).

120

It is not (proper) for the people of Madinah and those surrounding them of the Bedouins that they remain behind after the Messenger of Allah or that they prefer their souls over his soul. This is because there afflicts them not thirst or fatigue or hunger, or victory over the enemies in the way of Allah, in which they capture the area, thereby causing the wrath of disbelievers, so that it not written down to them as a righteous deed; surely Allah does not waste the reward of the Muhsînin (the righteous).

And there is nothing from the small and large spent that they would not give, and no matter what valleys they crossed, that it was not written for them in the most beautiful way for their deeds, as a reward from Allah.

And it is not necessary for the believers that they should go forth (to fight) altogether. Of every troop of them, a party only should go forth, that they (who are left behind) may get instructions in religion and they may warn their people when they return to them, so that they may beware (of Allah).

123

O you who believe (who wish their spirits to reach Allah before death)! Fight those of the disbelievers who are the nearest to you (with relatives) and let them find in your hardness. And know that Allah is with those who are owners of takwa (spiritual armor).

And whenever a Sûrah (a chapter of the Qur’ân) is sent down, there are some of them who say: “Which of you has it strengthened in Faith”? Then as for those who believe (who wish their spirits to reach Allahbefore death), it strengthens them in Faith and they give glad tidings to each other (rejoice).

And as for those in whose hearts is a disease (of doubt, disbelief and hypocrisy) it adds uncleanness (disbelief, doubt and hypocrisy) to their uncleanness and they die while they are disbelievers.

Do they not see that they are tried once or twice in every year? Yet they do not repent (don't turn their spirit to Allah) nor do they praise (nor repeat the Name of Allah).

Whenever a Sûrah (a chapter) is sent down, they cast glances at one another and ask: “Has anyone seen you”? Then they turn away. Allah has turned away their hearts because they are a people who do not understand.

I swear a mighty Messenger has come to you from among yourselves. Grievous to him is your falling into distress. He is very concerned over you and to the believers is kind and compassionate.

Now if they turn away after this, say: “Allah is Sufficient for me, there is no god but He. In Him I put my trust and He is the Lord of the Mighty Heaven of Heavens”.

9:1

Al-Anfal

Yunus

بَرَاءَةٌ مِنَ اللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ إِلَى الَّذِينَ عَاهَدْتُمْ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ

Bareaatun minaalleahi va rasoolihee ileallazeena eahadtum minal mushrikeen (mushrikeena).

This is an (a warning) exoneration from Allah and His Messenger to those of the polytheists with whom you made an agreement.
