The Cave

Praise is due to Allah, Who has sent down to His servant the Book (the Qur’ân) and has not made in it any crookedness,

which is eternal, in order to warn (by it) from Himself about severe torment and give glad tidings to the believers who do righteous deeds that a wonderful reward has been prepared for them,

where they will dwell forever!

And (the glorious Qur’ân) warns those who say: “Allah has begotten a child.”

Nor they nor their fathers (ancestors) no knowledge of it (that Allah would not have begotten a child). Too great is the word that comes out of their mouths! They only tell lies.

If they do not believe in these words (from the Holy Qur’ân), then you, grieving for them, almost destroy yourself.

Surely, We have made whatever is on the earth an embellishment for it, so that We may try them as to which of them is best in deeds.

And, most surely, everything that is on it (on earth), of course, it is We who turn it into barren soil.

Or did you consider that the Dwellers of the Сave and Rakim were one of Our strange Verses?

When the youths sought refuge in the Cave, they said: “Our Lord! Grant us a mercy (light) from Yourself and appoint for us a Murshid (saint guide) from among us (the one who will deliver us the mercy (light) and the salavat (light) that belong to us from your Command).”

So We put them to sleep on their ears (laying them on their side) in a Cave for a number of years (so that they could hear the praise of their heart, that is, the beat of a double knock).

Then We resurrected (awakened) them in order to determine which of the two sides would more accurately calculate how long they (there) stayed.

We relate to you their news with the truth. Surely, they were youths who were âmenû (who wished to return their spirit to Allah until death and became believers) in their Lord and We increased Return for them (carried out all their submissions).

We established a nexus with their hearts (We connected their hearts to us). When they stood up they said: “Our Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth. We shall never call upon any god besides Him. If that were so, we swear that we would say exorbitant”.

This is our nation. They have taken gods besides Him even though a clear proof (Sultan) was not sent to them. And who does more wrong than he who slanders with lie against Allah?

And when you depart from them not serving anything other than Allah, seek refuge in the cave! Your Lord will extend to you His Mercy and make easy for you your affair as a support.

And you will see how at sunrise, the sun passed from the right side of the cave, and at sunset, it passed from the left side of them. And they were in its wide space. This is from the verses (miracles) of Allah. Whom Allah will bring back to Himself, here is the one who turned (his spirit returned to Allah until death)! And whom He leaves in Darkness (who did not wish to return the spirit of Allah to death), then for him there is no a Religious Guide (that is, a Holy Teacher who will educate them)!

And you would think them awake whereas they were asleep. And We turn them about to the right and to the left while their dog outstretching his two forelegs at the entrance (of the Cave). If you had looked at them (closely), you would certainly have turned back from them in flight and would certainly have been filled with terror of them.

And thus did We raised them up (woke them up) that they might question each other. A speaker from among them said: “How long have you remained?” They said: “For a day or a part of a day.” (Others) said: “Your Lord knows best how long you have remained.” Now send one of you with this silver coin of yours to the city, then let him see what food is purest there, so let him bring you provision from it and let him behave be careful and let nobody know of you,

For surely if they are victorious against you (force you to deny your religion), they would stone you or force you back to their religion. Then you can never have Salvation”.

And thus did We notified them (dwellers of the city), that they might know that Allah’s Promise is true and that as for the Hour (Doomsday), there is no doubt about it. They were disputing among themselves about their situation. They said: “Erect an edifice over them”. Their Lord best knows them. And those who had the right to vote in their cause said: “We will certainly raise a Masjid over them”.

And making conjectures without knowing at what is unknown, they will say: “(They are) three, the fourth of them being their dog”. They will say: “Five, the sixth of them being their dog”. And they will say: “Seven and the eighth of them is their dog”. Say: “Allah best knows their number, none of them knows except a few”. Do not argue about them except for what is obvious (known)! Do not ask nobody of them about them!

And do not say of anything: “Surely I will do it tomorrow,

(and say: I will do it) if Allah wills”. And when you forget, then praise your Lord and say: “I hope my Lord makes me reach a nearer (more superior) level of submitted ones than this”.

And they remained in their Cave three hundred years, and added nine.

Say: “Allah knows best how long they remained”. To Him belongs the Unseen of the heavens and the earth. He sees and hears it (the Unseen) the best. There is none to be a friend for them besides Him. He does not make any one His associate in His Judgment.

Read what has been revealed to you of the Book of your Lord! There is none who can alter His Word. And you cannot find anyone to be turned to besides Him.

And keep your soul patiently with those who call on their Lord morning and evening seeking His Essence. Let not your eyes pass from them desiring the adornments of the life of the world. Do not obey those whose heart We have made heedless of Our praise (Dhikr) and who follows their low desires and are excessive in His command.

Say: “The truth is from your Lord”. So, whoever wills - let him believe; and whoever wills - let him disbelieve. Surely, We have prepared for the tyrants a Fire whose edges shall encompass them (the disbelievers) about. And if they ask for a rain (against the fire) they shall be showered with water like boiling, thick, melted brass which will scald their faces. How bad is this drink and what a bad friend (helper)!

Surely those who believe (those who wish to have their spirits to reach Allah before death) and do improving deeds (cleanse the souls). We never annul the reward of those who (having submit their will of Allah) do the best deeds–

these it is for whom are Gardens of Eden under which the rivers flow. They will be adorned therein with bracelets of gold. They (owners of takwa) shall wear green garments of fine silk and satin, reclining therein on thrones. How excellent the good and how beautiful a support!

Give them the example of two men. For one of them We made two gardens of grape vines and We surrounded them both with date–palms and in the midst of them We made crops.

Both these gardens produced their fruits and did not fall short thereof in anything. We caused a river to gush forth in their midst.

And he possessed much wealth (too) so he said to his friend while he conversed with him: “I am more than you in wealth and mightier in respect the number of people (in my family members).

And wronging his soul, he entered his garden. He said: “I do not think that this will ever perish.

And I do not believe that the Hour (Doomsday) will ever come. And even if I am returned to my Lord, I will most certainly find it (the garden) turned into a better than this”.

His friend said to him while he was conversing with him: “Do you really deny the One Who created you from moist soil, then from a drop (of water), and then gave you a fashioned in the form of a man?”

However, He is Allah, my Lord, and I will not associate anyone with my Lord!

Should you not have said, when you entered your garden: This is what Allah willed. There is no other power but Allah”. Even though you consider me to be poorer to you in wealth and children,

maybe my Lord may give me better than your garden, and send down on it (on your garden) calamities from the sky, then it becomes a slippery soil.

Or the water of it (of the garden) will go underground, and you will never be able to get it.”.

His crops were ruined and the tents were fallen (on the garden). He was rubbing his hands for what he had spent on it (effort and money), and saying: “Oh, I wish I had not associated with my Lord anyone”.

And he had no one to help him besides Allah. And he was not the one who was helped.

Now here, the friendship (help) is a right due to Allah. He is the Best in (the giving of) reward and the Best for the final end.

Give them an example of the life of the world that it is like water which We send down from the sky. The vegetation of the earth mingled (grew) with it. Then it became dry, crumbled into pieces that the wind scatters abroad. And Allah has Power over all things.

Wealth and children are the adornment of the life of this world. The lasting righteous deeds (that clean the soul) are better with your Lord and as good and hope.

And on that Day We will move the mountains and you see the earth clearly. And We will gather them all together and leave not out any one of them.

They (shall) be brought before your Lord, standing in ranks. Now certainly you have come to Us as We created you at first. Nay, you assumed that We would not fulfill the Promise you were given.

And the Book (the life film) is presented. Then you see the guilty ones. Fearing from what is in it (the book), and they say: “Woe to us! What a book is this! It does not omit a small one nor a great one, but calculates them all”. And what they had done they found it exposed before them (in their life films). And your Lord does not wrong anyone.

And We had said to the angels: “Prostrate yourselves before Adam”. They prostrated themselves immediately, except Iblîs (Satan). He was one of the jinn. So, he transgressed the Command of His Lord. Do you still then take him and his offspring for friends rather than Me, (whereas) they are your enemies? What an evil retribution (Hell) for the tyrants!

I did not make them (Lucifer and his offspring) witnesses of the creation of the heavens and the earth, nor of the creation of their own souls; nor I took those who leave (others) in Darkness as helpers.

And on that Day (of Resurrection) (Allah) shall say: “Call on those whom you assumed to be My associates”. So they shall call on them, but they shall not answer them (the disbelievers), and We will set a destroying an impediment between them.

And the guilty saw the Fire (Hell). Then they considered (understood) that they will be thrown into it, and they could not find a place to which to turn away (escape) from it.

And certainly We have explained in this Qur’ân every kind of matter (examples) to mankind. And mankind has ever been, most of anything, prone to dispute about many.

And what prevents men from believing when Return comes to them (when they are invited to to submit their spirit to Allah), and from asking to replace their sins with good from their Lord, is that what happened to the ancients did not overtake them, or that the torment did not come face to face with them.

We do not send Messengers except as givers of glad tidings and as Warners. Those who disbelieve (however) dispute with false argument, in order to refute the truth, and they take My Verses and that with which they are warned for a mockery.

Who is more unjust than he who is reminded of the Verses of his Lord, then he turns away from them and forgets what his two hands presented (his sins)? Surely, We have placed a covering (Ekinnet) over their hearts lest they should understand it and a heaviness (that hinders from hearing) in their ears. If you call them to Return (to submission of their spirit to Allah), even then they will never attain Return (will not be able to return their spirit to Allah before death).

And your Lord is the Owner of replace their sins with good and Mercy (light). Were He had called them to answer for what they had gained, He would certainly have hastened the torment for them. No, for them there is an appointed time. They shall not find a refuge with other than Him (Allah).

And these countries (population), We destroyed them when they did evil. And We appointed a fixed time for their destruction.

And Moses had said to his young company: “I will continue my way until I reach the junction of the two seas or I will go on for years (for a long time)”.

So when they had reached the junction of the two (seas) they both forgot about fish, and then she (the fish) set off into the sea on her way.

So, when they had passed (the meeting place), (Moses) said to his young company: “Bring to us our breakfast, certainly we have met with fatigue from our journey”.

(The young one) said: “Did you see when we took refuge on the rock, then I truly forgot the fish, none but Satan made me forget to remember it, and she (the fish) strangely set off on her way into the sea”.

(Moses) said: “This is what we have been seeking for”. So they returned retracing their footsteps.

Then they found one of Our servants whom We had granted Mercy from Us and whom We had taught knowledge from Our Secret Knowledge (Ilm-i Ledun).

Moses said to him: “May I follow on you so that you may teach me of what you have been taught from the secret knowledge in order that I may become the owner of the knowledge of the secret”.

(Khidr/ Melchizedek) said: “Surely, next to me, you cannot have patience (for the events that will happen).

And how can you have patience for what you do not understand and what you are not aware of?”

(Moses) said: “If Allah wills, you will find me patient and I shall not disobey your command”.

(Khidr/Melchizedek) said: “If you follow on me, then do not question me about any thing until I myself speak to you about it”.

So they both proceeded. When they embarked the ship, he made a hole in it. (Moses) said: “Have you made a hole in it to drown its inmates? Certainly you have done a grievous thing”.

(Khidr) said: “Did I not say that you will not be able to have patience next to me”?

(Moses) said: “Do not rebuke me for what I forgot and do not constrain me to a difficult thing in your commands”.

And they kept going until they met the boy. Then he (Khidr/Melchizedek A.S.) killed him (the child). He (Moses) asked: "Did you really kill an innocent soul (person) not in retribution for the soul (not because of revenge)? I swear that you made an extremely evil thing (unacceptable Sharia) act."

(Khidr) said: “Did I not say to you that you will not be able to have patience next to me”?

(Moses) said: “If I ask you about anything after this, do not accompany me; indeed you shall have (then) reached an (acceptable) excuse from me (then you have the right to leave me)”.

And they both continued on their way. When they came to the inhabitants of one village, they asked them for food. But they refused to give them hospitality. There they found a wall that was about to collapse. He (Khyzir/Melchizedek) immediately straightened her. He (Moses) said: "If you wished, then of course you would take a fee for it."

(Khidr) said: “This shall be separation between me and you. Now I will inform you of the interpretation of that with which you could not have patience.

As for the ship, it belonged to poor people who worked on the sea and I wished to make a damage in it, as there was behind them a king who seized all ship by force.

And as for the boy, his parents were believers and we feared lest he should drag them into rebellion and disbelief.

So we intended that their Lord should substitute for them one better than him in purity and nearer to mercy.

And as for the wall, it belonged to two orphan boys in the city, and there was under it a treasure belonging to them, and their father was an righteous one (Sâlih). So your Lord desired that they should attain their age of full maturity and take out their treasure, as a mercy from their Lord, and I did not do it of my own command (but the command of Allah). This is the significance (interpretation) of that with which you could not have patience”.

And they ask you about “Dhû’l-Qarnain”. Say: “I shall relay (explain) to you by mentioning him”.

Surely, We made him strong in the earth and granted him cause of to everything.

And he followed the cause (and set off).

When he reached the setting place of the sun, he found it setting in a spring of murky water, and found by it a people. We said: “O Dhû’l-Qarnain! Either you torment them, or treat them with kindness”.

(Dhû’l-Qarnain) said: “As for him who does wrong, we shall torment him, then he shall be returned to his Lord, and He will torment him with a fearsome torment”.

And as for him who believes (who wishes spirit to reach Allah before death) and does righteous deeds (cleanse half of the soul), then for him there is the best reward (happiness in two worlds) and We will speak to him of Our Command what is easy.

And he followed cause (and set off).

When he reached the land of the rising of the sun, he found it rising on a people to whom We had given no shelter from it.

So that We surrounded (with Our Knowledge) all that was with him (all the events that had happened), being All-Informed.

Then he followed (another) cause (He set off).

When he reached between the two Barriers, he found aside from those two (nations) a people who could hardly understand a speech.

They said: “O, Dhû’l-Qarnain! Verily Ya’jûj and Ma’jûj (Gog and Magog) spread lawlessness in the earth. Maybe because of this we will pay you, that you should raise a barrier between us and them”?

(Dhû’l-Qarnain) said: “That in which my Lord has strengthened (supported) me is better. Therefore, (you) only help me with a force. I will make a fortified barrier between you and them.

Bring me blocks of iron”. When the space between the two mountain sides is leveled, he said: "Blow (on fire)!” When he had made it fire, he said: “Bring me molten copper which I may pour over it.

So they shall not be able to pass over it nor could they make a hole in it”.

(Dhû’l Qarnain) said: “This is a mercy from my Lord, but when the Promise of my Lord comes to pass, He will make it level with the ground, and the Promise of my Lord is true”.

And on the Day of Permission We left them mixed to each other and the Trumpet was blown. Then We gathered them altogether.

And on the Day of Permission We showed Hell to the unbelievers with a severe presentation.

They whose eyes were under a cover from My Praise (Dhikr), and they could not hear (Me).

Did those who disbelieve think that My servants would be taking other friends besides Me? Surely, We have prepared Hell as an offering (dwelling place) for the disbelievers.

103

Say: “Shall we inform you of the greatest losers in deeds”?

104

They whose work (deeds) is vain in the life of the world (the degrees that they have lost are more than the degrees that they have earned) and they reckoned that they were doing best deeds.

105

These are they who denied the Verses of their Lord and reaching Him (the spirit’s reaching Allah before death). So their deeds became vain and therefore We will not set up a scale for them on the Day of Resurrection.

106

Hell is their recompense for what they concealed (denied My verses) and held My Verses and My Messengers in mockery.

107

Those who believe (those who wish their spirits to reach Allah before death) and do righteous deeds (the soul’s cleansing), their abode shall be the Gardens of Al-Firdaus,

108

where they shall dwell forever, they shall not desire to leave from there.

109

Say: “If the seas were ink for (writing) the Words of my Lord, the seas would surely be consumed before the Words of my Lord are exhausted, even if We were to bring as many (seas) to help them”.

110

Say: “I am only a human being like you. It is revealed to me that your God is One God, therefore whoever wishes to reach Allah (before death) let him do righteous deeds (the soul’s cleansing) and let him not associate anyone with Him in the worship of his Lord”.

قُلْ إِنَّمَا أَنَا بَشَرٌ مِثْلُكُمْ يُوحَىٰ إِلَيَّ أَنَّمَا إِلَٰهُكُمْ إِلَٰهٌ وَاحِدٌ ۖ فَمَنْ كَانَ يَرْجُو لِقَاءَ رَبِّهِ فَلْيَعْمَلْ عَمَلًا صَالِحًا وَلَا يُشْرِكْ بِعِبَادَةِ رَبِّهِ أَحَدًا

Kul innamea ana basharun mislukum yoohea ilayya annamea ileahukum ileahun veahid(veahidun), fa man keana yarcoo likeaa raabbihee fal yaa’mal aamalan sealihaan va lea yushrik bi ıbeadati raabbihee ahaadea(ahaadan).
